Greg Abbott Texas Attorney General P.O. Box 12548 Austin, TX 78711-2548 greg.abbott@oag.state.tx.us Dear Mr. Abbott: Few people have heard about Alberto Sifuentes and Jesus Ramirez outside of our Panhandle community. But here in Littlefield, those two names have become known as symbols of a justice system gone terribly wrong. You can fix that. In August when your office is called to defend the verdicts that sent these two innocent men to prison for life, you can help bring them what they deserve – a new, fair trial. Alberto and Jesus were convicted of killing a local Jolly Roger convenience store clerk based on no physical evidence and key eyewitness testimony that has been totally discredited. The underfunded and overwhelmed defense teams should have been fully aware that store security video showed their star witness could not have seen Alberto and Jesus at the Jolly Roger the night of Aug. 6, 1996. They also, as you know, should have called the well known alibi witnesses that placed the two defendants miles away at the time of the killing. In the name of justice, please instruct your prosecutors to do the right thing. Allow Alberto and Jesus a chance at real American justice. The good faith of our entire community hangs in the balance.
