Letter to Mexican President Vicente Fox

On 8/25/05, Trini Gamez wrote the President of Mexico, Vicente Fox:

Mr. President,

Eight years ago Mr. Jesus Ramirez and Mr. Alberto Sifuentes, Mexican citizens, were convicted of robbery and murder and sentenced to Texas prison for life.

This week, a new legal defense team will go to court to present conclusive testimony that Mr. Ramirez and Mr. Sifuentes were wrongly charged and unjustly convicted.

Centro Gamez is a group of supporters who have established an internet Web site www.innocentintexas.com. We work to arouse public demand to have the convictions and sentences overturned.

Mexico, represented by the Consul in Dallas, Texas, has spoken out in defense of these citizens who were so unfairly treated. Now, however, the Texas justice officials need to hear the highest office of Mexico declare that the facts in this case cry out for redress. A strong statement from Los pinos can quicken the momentum begun by the volunteered legal counsel from a major Dallas law Firm.

With the attention of the press drawn to the shocking travesty of justice perpetrated in a Texas rural court, you can help protect hundreds of Mexican citizens who might otherwise in the future experience the perjury of self-interested offenders, the lack of adequate counsel, and the direct bigotry of law enforcement.

We have attached the web address in order for you to see the particulars in the Ramirez-Sifuentes case. We plead with you that Mexico will again highlight the international commitment that innocence should always be protected, especially when the state deprives people of their freedom by using the trick of tyrannies.

Thank You
