"We're hoping that, very shortly, these people will be found innocent and released," said Defense Attorney Barry McNeil. Alberto Sifuentes and Jesus Ramirez appeared in a Lubbock Courtroom Thursday to ask for a new trial. Both are serving life prison terms for the 1996 murder of a Littlefield convenience clerk. Defense lawyers claim the original witness gave false testimony in the case. The Lubbock judge can not make the final decision. He can only make a recommendation to the Criminal Court of Appeals. |
